TLC Southeast Asia - Cake Boss | Carlos Bakery [Live in Malaysia]

SUNWAY PYRAMID: Malaysians are not the only ones who love nasi lemak and satay. Popular baker and cake decorator Buddy Valastro too loves these calorific Malaysian staples. He tried many kinds of Malaysian cuisines while he was here in Malaysia.

Valastro is in town and he is excited to explore the sights, sounds and flavors that Malaysia has to offer. Buddy Valastro's family-owned business, Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken, N.J., is booming, and it's bound to get even busier after viewers get an inside look at how Buddy and his staff, including his mom, four sisters and three brothers-in-law, produce thousands of wedding cakes, specialty cakes (as in Britney Spears' circus-theme 27th birthday cake) and pastries every week.

“I’m excited to be here to explore its cultures and to sample the local cuisines,” he said at a press event held at the Starhill Culinary Studio here today.

Valastro, 39, arrived this morning to promote the eighth season of his popular TV show, Cake Boss, which will premiere on Nov 9, at 9pm on TLC TV (Astro channel 707).

“I’m extremely pleased that Cake Boss is well-received all over the world.

“When I took over Carlo’s Bakery at the age of 17, after my father passed away, I never imagined that the career I chose would later brought me to this side of the world,” he recounted.

This is Valastro’s maiden visit to Malaysia and Asia and though it may be his first time here, he is not unfamiliar with Malaysian food. Just a few doors away from his baking facility studio in Hoboken, New Jersey, is a restaurant called Satay Malaysian Cuisine.

He dines there regularly and his favourites on the menu are Kajang chicken satay and nasi lemak.

“I’m excited to discover what they taste like in their home country. Of course, I’m prepared not to compare the Malaysian food in New Jersey and here,” he said.
